David Melvin English (October 12, 1942 – February 23, 1995) better known by the stage name Melvin Franklin or his nickname "Blue", was an American bass singer. Franklin was best known for his role as a founding member of Motown singing group The Temptations from 1960 to 1995.
24 févr. 1995 · Melvin Franklin, the original bass singer of the perennially popular Temptations who anchored such hits as “The Way You Do the Things You Do” and “My Girl,” died Thursday. He was 52.
The group became known as the legendary “Classic Five”–Otis Williams, Melvin Franklin, Eddie Kendricks, Paul Williams and David Ruffin. The Classic Five broke out with “The Way You Do The Things You Do” which peaked at #11 on the national pop chart in 1964.

Franklin, who was the baritone voice of the Temps, had been ill for the past few years of his life, suffering from rheumatoid arthritis and diabetes, among other things.

By the early 1990s, bass Melvin Franklin began missing performances due to failing health and Ray Davis, former bass man of Parliament-Funkadelic, began touring as a fill-in during 1993. Franklin died after suffering a brain seizure at the age of 52 on February 23
Il est également composé de Elbridge Bryant (en), Melvin Franklin (en), Richard Street et James Crawford. Un label local, Northern Records, édite leur single Come On en 1959. Lorsque Crawford et Street annoncent leur départ, Otis Williams invite Eddie Kendricks et Paul Williams à les rejoindre.
