Six months later, original member Roosevelt Brodie, who was the second tenor for the original Blue Notes, died July 13, 2010, at age 75 due to complications of diabetes. And just five months later in that year, Bernard Wilson died on December 26, 2010, at age 64 from complications of a stroke and a heart attack. [8]

After serving his time in the US Army he began singing doo-wop in the 1950s with Harold Melvin when he had a group called The Charlemagnes.

11 mars 2021 · What is agreed is that in 1954 Harold Melvin joined Franklin Peaker, Bernard Williams, Roosevelt Brodie and Jesse Gillis, Jr (collectively once known as the Charlemagnes) and formed his Blue Notes and for reasons never best explained put his name front out even though he wasn’t the lead singer.

Roosevelt Brodie. Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes were, originally, formed in 1954 under the name 'The Bluenotes'. Prior to that incarnation the group were originally known as the Charlemagnes. Harold Melvin was a self taught pianist, who originally sang Doo Wop.
The Blue Notes debuted on Josie with the ballad If You Love Me (Really Love Me), and they encored in '57 with Benny's The Retribution Blues. Melvin, born June 25, 1939 in Philly, joined the ranks in 1958 when Brodie was drafted (he'd been in The Charmagnes while attending Simon Gratz High).
