Daniel ( hébreu : דָּנִיֵּאל ( Dānīyyēʾl ), qui signifie « Jugement divin » ou « Dieu est mon juge ») est un personnage du Livre de Daniel, qui fait partie de la Bible. Il est l'un des grands prophètes de la Bible hébraïque (Tanakh) et de l' Ancien Testament .

The book contains traditional stories ( chaps. 1–6 ), which tell of the trials and triumphs of the wise Daniel and his three companions. The moral is that people of faith can resist temptation and conquer adversity.
Daniel was a teenager taken captive by Nebuchadnezzar during the first siege of Jerusalem in 605 B.C. He was of royal blood. While in captivity, without the slightest compromise, he faithfully served under the administration of three kings: Nebuchadnezzar, Belshazzar, and Darius.
