Plainsong was originally a British country rock/folk rock band, formed in early 1972 by Iain Matthews, formerly of Fairport Convention and Matthews Southern Comfort, and Andy Roberts, previously a member of The Liverpool Scene and Everyone.

A British folk-rock group led by Iain Matthews and Andy Roberts, Plainsong is known largely for their 1972 cult classic debut, In Search of Amelia Earhart. Through critically lauded, the album was a commercial failure and the band's original lineup split up at the end of that year.
