The song tells of a knife-wielding criminal of the London underworld from the musical named Macheath, the "Mack the Knife" of the title. The song has become a popular standard recorded by many artists after it was recorded by Louis Armstrong in 1955 with translated lyrics by Marc Blitzstein.
"Mack the Knife" est l'un des titres les plus célèbres de la longue carrière d'Ella Fitzgerald. En 1960, en pleine lumière, l'Américaine, alors âgée de 43 ans, se produit en concert à Berlin. Parmi ses chansons, Mack the Knife est en fait une reprise d'un standard américain des années 1950, chantée notamment par Louis Armstrong et Bobby Darin.
