  1. Henry Wyndham Phillips (c. 1820 – 8 December 1868) was a British artist and portrait painter. Although he produced and exhibited a small number of paintings of scriptural subjects early on in his career, he spent most of his life working as a portrait artist.

  2. The son of the portrait painter, Thomas Phillips, Henry Wyndham Phillips exhibited a few scriptural subjects in the 1840s but himself worked mainly as a portraitist. He also served for thirteen years as an energetic Secretary of the Artists' General Benevolent Institution.

  6. Henry Wyndham Phillips painted this portrait of his close friend, the author Lady Duff-Gordon, as a gift to her husband while he was convalescing at their home. His frame style is in marked contrast to the massive frames favoured by his father, Thomas Phillips .
