Open Sesame was the second of two studio albums released by the band in 1976. The title track became a top ten R&B single, and later part of the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. The single "Super Band" also reached the R&B top twenty.

Settling on Kool & the Gang, the group signed to De-Lite Records and released their debut album, Kool and the Gang (1969). The band's first mainstream success came with the release of their fourth album Wild and Peaceful (1973); it contains the US top-ten singles "Jungle Boogie" [1] and "Hollywood Swinging".
