Doug Smith (author) Doug "the Hammer" Smith (born December 27, 1964) is an American retired minor-league ice hockey player who co-authored a biography about his time spent playing professional hockey, Goon: The True Story of an Unlikely Journey into Minor League Hockey, with Adam Frattasio.
Doug Smith was a power forward who played five seasons in the NBA from 1991 to 1996. He averaged 8.0 points and 4.2 rebounds per game, and shot 42.5% from the field and 8.3% from three.
