The guitarist tried out for the band after Ace Frehley left: “The KISS audition was a blessing. I mean, it was like—I was basically just a kid. By going there and seeing what an audition was like, I’d never heard of such a thing, really.
Oh, I see. Well, honestly, although Doug Aldrich is a great guitar player, I think he wasn't the best fit for Dio. Some songs sounded really weird with him on guitar. We Rock and Fever Dreams in particular. So in most cases I prefer the studio versions.
