Issachar (en hébreu : יִשָּׂשׁכָר, « homme de la récompense ») est le neuvième fils de Jacob et le cinquième des sept enfants que Léa eut à פדן ארם (Paddan-Aram (en)). Il est le cinquième des six fils de Jacob et Léa dans le récit de la Genèse.
La tribu d'Issacar est une des douze tribus d'Israël. Elle fut fondée par Issachar, l'un des fils de Jacob . C'était la tribu à laquelle appartenaient l'apôtre Thomas et le juge Thola .

Issachar, one of the 12 tribes of Israel that in biblical times constituted the people of Israel who later became the Jewish people. The tribe was named after the fifth son born to Jacob and his first wife, Leah.
According to the Hebrew Bible, the Tribe of Issachar (Hebrew: יִשָּׂשכָר/יִשְׂשָׂכָר, Modern: Yīssaḵar, Tiberian: Yīssāḵār) was one of the twelve tribes of Israel and one of the ten lost tribes.
Issachar was the ninth son of Leah and father to one of the twelve tribes of Israel. One interpretation of his name is "man of reward" (Hebrew: shcar ). Issachar was the product of the mandrake incident ( Genesis 30:9-18) and was involved in the plot to sell his brother Joseph into slavery.
He was Jacob's ninth son, and was born in Padan-aram (Comp. 28:2 ). He had four sons at the going down into Egypt ( 46:13; Numbers 26:23, 25). Issachar, Tribe of, during the journey through the wilderness, along with Judah and Zebulun ( Numbers 2:5 ), marched on the east of the tabernacle.
