Jean-Michel Basquiat (French: [ʒɑ̃ miʃɛl baskija]; December 22, 1960 – August 12, 1988) was an American artist. Basquiat first achieved fame as part of SAMO, an informal graffiti duo who wrote enigmatic epigrams in the cultural hotbed of the Lower East Side of Manhattan during the late 1970s where the hip hop, punk, and street art movements had coalesced.

Jean-Michel Basquiat décède d'une overdose le 12 août 1988, à l'âge de 27 ans. Le musée Cantini, à Marseille, lui consacre sa première rétrospective en France en 1992. En 2023, Radio France consacre une sélection de podcasts à Jean-Michel Basquiat, à l'occasion de l'exposition "Basquiat Soundtracks" à la Philharmonie de Paris.
