Sort of. A little bit. “Nocturnal Animals” is a work of exceptional, undeniable craft, but it’s also a movie that’s meant to stick to you a little bit.

De langverwachte tweede film van modeontwerper/regisseur Tom Ford (A Single Man) is even vernuftig als virtuoos. In de film lopen drie verhaallijnen door elkaar. Over de geslaagde maar diepongelukkige galeriehouder Susan (Adams); haar ooit gelukkige relatie met aspirant-schrijver Edward (Gyllenhaal); en het verhaal van het boek dat Edward schreef en opdroeg aan Susan, getiteld Nocturnal Animals.
Dat film-in-een-film idee is op zich leuk, maar eigenlijk zit je door hoe het is uitgewerkt wel veel naar twee films voor de prijs van één te kijken, waarbij het ‘Nocturnal Animals’-manuscript gedeelte eigenlijk het hoofdverhaal wordt en alles rondom Susan zelf wat vage bijzaak.
