22 févr. 2013 · A "hibou" is what most people will translate "owl" as. A lot of people will also usually call a "chouette" a "hibou", sometimes thinking the former is the female of the latter. It is not the case. Taken from the French Wikipedia entry on "chouette": "La chouette se distingue du hibou par l'absence d'aigrettes sur la tête".

29 août 2019 · Anyway, the way I see it, I don't associate the subsequent plural noun "les examens" with the "Ce" at the head. It's like having two separate short clauses. In a manner of speaking, you can see it as: "C’est nul, je veux dire, les examens". By the way, you can also say: "Les examens, c'est nul". – Con-gras-tue-les-chiens.

Dans le cas des mots en -ée, ils sont normalement féminins certes mais des mots comme lycée, musée, apogée, Élysée, mausolée, etc. sont masculins car ils viennent du grec via ou non le latin, leur terminaison y était respectivement « os » ou « on », et « us » ou « um » francisée en e muet. Ainsi Λύκειον ...
Both of these seem to translate to "ring," as a piece of jewelry. When I put them into Google Image Search, bague shows me diamond-encrusted wedding rings while anneau gives me pictures of the One Ring from Tolkien's Lord of the Rings books. 30 janv. 2023 · As to why it's elided, I would say it's because it's treated as a vowel, so naturally there's an elision. It happens in all words starting with a vowel sound (" d'ici, d'hier, d'avoir "), except those with an aspirated h (" de haricot, de hibou "). It's not that obvious that y is treated as a vowel because technically it's a consonant here.
9 mai 2023 · In addition to all this, a number of native French speakers often have to be corrected regarding similar species that are gendered differently: la grenouille n'est pas la femelle du crapaud et la chouette n'est pas la femelle du hibou. –
