She is the wife of Peter Jackson, director of The Lord of the Rings (film series) and The Hobbit (film series). She, Jackson, and Philippa Boyens are credited with writing the screenplays for all six films, as well as Guillermo del Toro for The Hobbit (film series).

She has collaborated with her partner Peter Jackson on all his films since Meet the Feebles (1989), and was nominated for her first Oscar after co-writing Heavenly Creatures (1994). In 2004, Walsh shared three Oscar wins for her work on the final episode of the Lord of the Rings.
Walsh also contributed to the trilogy's musical scores, and in addition to winning numerous international film awards, Peter Jackson's better half earned three Oscars when the smoke cleared in early 2003. That same year, production was well underway for the couple's next cinematic endeavor -- a remake of the 1933 fantasy-adventure classic King Kong.
