L’ université rhénane Frédéric-Guillaume de Bonn (en allemand : Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn) est une université allemande située à Bonn dans le Land de Rhénanie-du-Nord-Westphalie. L'université porte le nom du roi de Prusse Frédéric-Guillaume III et a été fondée en 1818.

L’esprit révolutionnaire de Beethoven va pourtant persister sous une autre forme dans nombre de ses œuvres. Au moment où la Révolution éclate en France, Beethoven a dix-neuf ans et il étudie la littérature allemande à l’université de Bonn, la ville où il est né.
The university constitution was adopted in 1827. In the spirit of Wilhelm von Humboldt the constitution emphasized the autonomy of the university and the unity of teaching and research. Similar to the University of Berlin, which was founded in 1810, the new constitution made the University of Bonn a modern research university.
Friedrich Gottlieb Welcker a été de 1819 à sa mort (1868) le principal représentant des sciences de l’Antiquité à l’Université de Bonn. Disciple de Zoëga et fondateur du musée universitaire de Bonn, il s’intéressa autant à l’archéologie qu’à la philologie.
