James "J.T." Warren Taylor (born August 16, 1953) is an American singer who achieved fame as the lead singer of Kool & the Gang between 1979 and 1988. Taylor joined Kool & the Gang in 1979 and remained with the group for nine years.

He left Kool & The Gang in 1989 to pursue a solo career, right away landing a No. 1 duet hit with Regina Belle, “All I Want is Forever,” and writing virtually all of his solo debut album Master of the Game.
His first LP with Kool and the Gang, Ladies Night, spawned two number 1 R&B and Pop hits, Ladies Night and Too Hot. This LP was the beginning of resurgence for the band, resulting in an unprecedented decade of musical creativity and innovation and hit-making success.
