Lowicz fut le théâtre du premier combat de la campagne de Prusse et de Pologne, le 24 novembre 1806. Ce combat opposa le général français Beaumont au général russe Bennigsen et se termina à l'avantage du premier. Cette victoire française ouvrit la route de Varsovie aux armées napoléoniennes.
Łowicz [ˈwɔvʲit͡ʂ] is a town in central Poland with 27,436 inhabitants (2021). [1] It is situated in the Łódź Voivodeship. Together with a nearby station of Bednary, Łowicz is a major rail junction of central Poland, where the line from Warsaw splits into two directions—towards Poznań, and Łódź.

The present Baroque shape of Lowicz basilica dates back to the half of the c17th as a result of the reconstruction of the Gothic church performed by Italian architects A. and I. Poncino on the initiative of the archbishop, Maciej Łubieński.
