Death. Reed died from a heart attack during a break from filming Gladiator in Valletta, Malta, on the afternoon of 2 May 1999. According to Gladiator screenwriter David Franzoni, Reed had encountered a group of sailors from the Royal Navy frigate HMS Cumberland on shore leave in a bar (the pub), and challenged them to a drinking match.

Décès. Il meurt d'une crise cardiaque dans un pub de La Valette, pendant le tournage de Gladiator. Le scénario de ce dernier film est alors légèrement remanié et la scène de la mort de son personnage est tournée en incrustant le visage de l'acteur défunt sur le corps d'une doublure à l'aide d'effets spéciaux.
