He performed in over 100 screen productions between 1913 and 1952 and was the first actor to portray on film novelist Edgar Rice Burroughs' fictional "jungle" character Tarzan, initially appearing in that role in the 1918 release Tarzan of the Apes.

Tarzan of the Apes is a 1918 American action/adventure silent film directed by Scott Sidney starring Elmo Lincoln, Enid Markey, George B. French and Gordon Griffith. It was the first Tarzan film ever made and is based on Edgar Rice Burroughs ' original 1912 novel Tarzan of the Apes .
Elmo Lincoln was a former Arkansas peace officer who became the first actor to play Tarzan in a movie, Tarzan of the Apes (1918). He also appeared in several other films, serials and TV shows, and died in 1952.
