Shyam Benegal (born 14 December 1934) is an Indian film director, screenwriter and documentary filmmaker. Often regarded as the pioneer of parallel cinema, he is widely considered as one of the greatest filmmakers post 1970s.
Shyam Benegal est un réalisateur, producteur et scénariste indien né le 14 décembre 1934 à Aliwal (Andhra Pradesh, Inde). Il a commencé sa carrière par la réalisation de nombreux spots publicitaires avant de se tourner vers le cinéma et de connaître le succès, notamment avec les films Ankur ( 1973 ) et Bhumika ( 1977 ).
