Miriam Makeba and Simon (1986) Tour. The Graceland tour began on February 1, 1987. Simon was accompanied by an ensemble of 24 black South Africians, including the singer Miriam Makeba, the trumpeter Hugh Masekela, the guitarist Ray Phiri, and Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
He added the distincitve styles of Miriam Makeba, Hugh Masekela and Ladysmith Black Mambazo and took the troupe to Africa. The GRACELAND-tour, which has played to diverse audiences of thousands throughout the world gained a reputation as an epic event when it went to Africa and played to a racially mixed audience of over 45.000 people.
