Midnight Star marque une longue pause au cours des années 1990 avant de faire un come-back en 2002 avec l'album 15th Avenue, dont les ambiances soul et RnB dénotent pour le groupe un style nouveau et nettement plus feutré. Cette dernière œuvre en date passera relativement inaperçu.

Drummer Bobby Lovelace joined the group in late 1982, freeing Gentry to sing and play guitar exclusively. Midnight Star's fourth album, No Parking on the Dance Floor, was released in 1983, and proved to be their breakout.
29 févr. 2016 · We had the pleasure of interviewing Atlanta native Bobby Lovelace. He spoke of his rise through the Atlanta 70's music scene, to touring with the funk band Cameo as drummer, to eventually landing in Cincinnati as drummer for the 80''s hit making machine, Midnight Star.
In 1982, they moved to SOLAR Records, and releasing a second album, Victory now with a real band behind them (guitarist Melvin Gentry, bassist Kenneth Gant, drummer Bobby Lovelace, multi-instrumentalist Bill Simmons and keyboard player Bo Watson).
