Poussée par son entourage, Patti Smith crée son propre groupe de rock, aux côtés du guitariste et compagnon de l’époque Lenny Kaye. Le bassiste Ivan Kral, le batteur Jay Dee Daughtery et le pianiste Richard Sohl finissent de compléter la formation pour former Patti Smith Group.
