Cindy, a hospice worker with Down Syndrome rescues a homeless puppy she names Smudge, but the caretakers at the group home where she lives do not allow pets. Grudgingly, Cindy turns Smudge over to the S.P.C.A. Set at Christmas time, she conducts a headlong pursuit to reunite with Smudge.
