  2. Hodan Nalayeh Secondary School, formerly Vaughan Secondary School, is a public secondary school in Vaughan, Ontario, Canada. It opened in 1989 by the York Region Board of Education and is currently overseen by the York Region District School Board.

  5. 19 mai 2021 · The York Region District School Board voted to rename Vaughan Secondary School after the late Somali-Canadian journalist, Hodan Nalayeh, who was killed by al Shabaab in 2019. The renaming was a result of community advocacy and reflects the board's commitment to racial justice and eliminating anti-Black racism.

  6. 2 mars 2021 · A high school that Black community organizations campaigned to have renamed in Vaughan will now be named after Hodan Nalayeh, a Somali-Canadian journalist from the area.

  7. 5 mars 2021 · The York Region District School Board decided to rename Vaughan Secondary School after Hodan Nalayeh, who was killed in a hotel attack in Somalia in 2019. Nalayeh was a TV host and a storyteller who celebrated the Somali community in Canada.
