Drummer and songwriter who joined Spyro Gyra during the recording of 1979’s Morning Dance, supplanting Ted Reinhardt. He remained with them through the 1984 live album, Access All A reas. He co-penned “Cockatoo”, which appeared on Catching the Sun, one of two LPs they issued in 1980.

Eli Konikoff, the Buffalo area's premiere Dixieland jazz band leader in the 1960s, died Monday (Jan. 8, 1996) in Buffalo General Hospital after a brief illness. He was 80.
After the success of "Shaker Song," the band went on tour in 1978 with a lineup including Beckenstein on sax, Wall and Schuman on keyboards, Kurzdorfer on bass, Freddy Rapillo on guitar, Eli Konikoff on drums and Gerardo Velez on percussion.
