Prentiss Barnes (April 12, 1925 – October 1, 2006) was an American rhythm and blues singer in the 1950s. Barnes was born in Magnolia, Mississippi. He sang bass for the legendary vocal group The Moonglows which had such hits as "Sincerely" and "The Ten Commandments of Love".

Le groupe a commencé par enregistrer pour le label Chance Records de Chicago, sortant leur premier single « I Knew From The Start » en 1954. Leur succès a rapidement attiré l’attention des plus grands labels, et en 1955, ils ont signé chez Chess Records.
Les Moonglows ont eu plusieurs succès sur Chess Records, notamment « Sincerely » (1955), « The Ten Commandments of Love » (1958) et « See Saw » (1959). Ils ont également été en vedette dans le film Rock, Rock, Rock en 1956, où ils ont interprété la chanson « Over and Over Again ».
Le groupe a subi plusieurs changements de membres au fil des ans, mais a toujours été dirigé par Harvey Fuqua. En 1958, Bobby Lester a quitté le groupe et a été remplacé par Johnny Carter. En 1960, Prentiss Barnes a quitté le groupe et a été remplacé par Doc Williams.

The Moonglows were discovered in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1952 by legendary disc jockey Alan Freed. Lester sang lead, Fuqua was the alternate lead, Graves the first tenor, and Barnes the bass. From 1953 to 1954 they had only minor success in the rhythm-and-blues market.
