14 août 2024 · The album, John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman, was recorded at the legendary Rudy Van Gelder’s studio in Englewood, New Jersey. And according to legend, each song was captured in only one take. (Raw recordings of several alternate takes were discovered in 2005, but some jazz fans prefer the fiction to the fact.)

30 juil. 2024 · A new contract was inked with Impulse!, and on 27 April 1964, Coltrane entered Rudy Van Gelder’s studio to record his first all-new material in almost three years, apart from the 6 March 1963 session that had spawned the music on the posthumous release “Both Directions At Once”.
15 août 2024 · The album I’m going to review in this article is the one that introduced a spiritual awakening in jazz. John Coltrane recorded A Love Supreme in December of 1964 and released it the following year. He wanted this, in my opinion, to represent his devotion to God musically.
