The track’s innovative use of orchestration, unusual percussion, and ethereal wordless vocals created a template for musical escapism that would heavily influence psychedelic artists.

Schaeffer’s colleague Henry was an important musique concrète composer, and Schaeffer assisted him in creating the monumental 1950 work, Symphonie pour une homme seul. Henry’s work moved out of pure acousmatic abstraction and into music for commercials, film scores, and collaborations with rock bands.

Lesh had gravitated from classical music to cool jazz by the time he arrived at the College of San Mateo, eventually becoming first trumpet player in the school’s big band and a composer of several orchestral pieces the group performed.
