• Chingy went independent after releasing his fourth album, 2007’s Hate It or Love It. In 2009, he released a whopping five mixtapes and returned the next year with the album Success & Failure. • In 2017, following several more mixtapes and EPs, Chingy signed with Bungalo Records, an indie label distributed through Universal Music.

Chingy se dispute très vite avec Ludacris pour des raisons financières et change de label. Son rap sudiste peine ensuite à retrouver un succès significatif, ce qui n'empêche pas Chingy de mener en parallèle une carrière d'acteur. Powerballin' (2004), Hoodstar (2006), Hate It or Love It (2008) rencontrent un succès qui va en fléchissant.
