  7. Named for educator and former dean of Wayne State University, David Mackenzie High School was the product of the seemingly endless growth of the Detroit schools. The first classroom building and boiler house were built in 1927-28. An additional classroom wing was added in 1929, followed by the auditorium, library, and cafeteria in 1930.
