I don’t know much about blackout film, but plastics typically soften with heat. It sounds like you have (brittle) film already, so you could easily try applying it with a hair dryer. First try heating a piece of film alone to see if it becomes more pliable. If it does, warm the glass a little then warm the film section to lay.
