Simferopol (/ ˌsɪmfəˈroʊpəl /), also known as Aqmescit, [a] is the second-largest city on the Crimean Peninsula. The city, along with the rest of Crimea, is internationally recognised as part of Ukraine, controlled by Russia, and is considered the capital of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
