As the child of a successful Jazz musician (Hasaan Hakim) Omar spent his days with Jazz luminary like John Coltrane and his nights gigging with his dad in and around NYC at the age of 10.
From an early age, Omar Hakim’s affinity for rhythm was evident. He began playing the drums at the tender age of five and soon found himself performing in his father’s band, guided by his familial musical influence.
