Le camp de Drancy, situé au nord-est de Paris, dans la ville de Drancy, fut établi par les Allemands en août 1941 afin d'y interner plus de 4200 hommes juifs résidants à Paris qui venaient d'être arrêtés. À l'été 1942, Drancy devint le principal camp de transit pour les Juifs déportés depuis la France.

In August 1941, a detention camp was established in the city of Drancy, northeast of Paris. The inmates were housed in a long, cement, four-storey building which was used by the Paris area Gendarmerie before the war. At its height, the camp held 4,500 prisoners. They were guarded by French policemen.
