Le protopunk est un terme désignant un genre musical du milieu des années 1960 et du début des années 1970, considéré comme étant du punk rock avant l'heure ou, du moins, un précurseur du punk.
Proto-punk (or protopunk) is rock music from the 1960s to mid-1970s that foreshadowed the punk rock movement. A retrospective label, the musicians involved were generally not originally associated with each other and came from a variety of backgrounds and styles; together, they anticipated many of punk's musical and thematic attributes.

7 juil. 2020 · More of a retrospective term than its own subgenre, proto-punk refers to music made between the mid-’60s and mid-’70s that mixed styles — garage rock, Merseybeat, avant-garde, glam rock, R&B, jazz, etc. — to yield relatively chaotic and unpolished compositions brimming with outsider mentalities, uproarious attitudes, and taboo subject matter.
