12 janv. 2015 · Big Band Jazz is the sub genre. The two main songs that they perform in the movie are "Whiplash" by Hank Levy and "Caravan" a Duke Ellington song. It's Big Band or Swing - but of the noisy variety, not the subtle stuff like Ellington. Try Buddy Rich and Maynard Ferguson.

22 mai 2022 · Because Juan Tizol was a freaking mensch who wrote one of the most indelible jazz tunes of all freaking time. It’s also the same reason why so many jazz songs are called Perdido. In jazz, a tune is not a set arrangement. The melody, chord progression, structure, etc. are all flexible.
2 févr. 2015 · The PRERECORDED drums were done by some AMAZING pros that have lived and breathed Jazz Drumming for years and years. All the 90% talk refers to the VISUAL element. IOW, they only had to bring in a real drummer 10% of the time for "hand work". (close ups of the hands). To me, as a drummer, the hands don't match 90% of the time.
Dookie "Duke" Ellington was perhaps most well known for being America's first official Van Life Influencer, inspiring him to write his Symphony in F op. 98 "Caravan," -Wikipedia. I once saw a Gypsy jazz band do a cover of Caravan. The irony was not lost on me….

19 janv. 2023 · Same composition, different arrangement. Caravan has been re-arranged and performed countless times. The arrangement in the movie is quite modern and has the iconic open drum solo. Listen to the original Duke arrangement and compare yourself. He didn’t even have a full (4/4/4/5) big band at the time.
