C’est d’autant plus vrai qu’elle ne devrait pas être identique à la fin proposée par la série sur HBO.

Le titre annoncé du septième volume est A Dream of Spring (Un rêve de printemps) [34]. Martin compte bien conclure sa saga avec ce tome mais laisse néanmoins la porte ouverte à un éventuel huitième livre si cela se révélait nécessaire [35], possibilité également évoquée en 2014 par son éditrice Anne Groell [36].
