Anton Peschka was born on 21 February 1885 in Vienna. After a commercial education he visited the painting school of Robert Scheffer. From 1906 to 1910 he studied with his friend Egon Schiele, whose sister Gertrude he married later, under Christian Griepenkerl at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna.
Peschka produced mainly paintings of nudes and landscapes, and also worked as a commercial artist, designing Austrian postage stamps and banknotes in the 1920s. Works by Peschka are today in the collections of the Albertina, the Museum der Stadt Wien, and several other museums in Vienna.
14 oct. 2023 · Anton Peschka was a fellow Austrian painter who was a close friend of Schiele and was in the same class at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. He was five years older than Schiele and eventually became his brother-in-law when he married Schiele's sister, Gertrude, in 1914.
