Robert Henry De Niro (May 3, 1922 – May 3, 1993), better known as Robert De Niro Sr., was an American abstract expressionist painter and the father of actor Robert De Niro.

ROBERT DE NIRO, SR. was part of the celebrated New York School of post-war American artists. His work blended abstract and expressionist styles of painting with traditional representational subject matter, bridging the divide between European Modernism and Abstract Expressionism.
Robert De Niro, Sr. was an American painter who blended gestural abstraction with observed colors and forms. Influenced by the work of Henri Matisse, De Niro embraced the sumptuousness of early-20th-century French painting within a mellowed form of Abstract Expressionism.
