Sophia Jane Goulden (née Craine; 1833 – 1910) was a Manx woman known for being the mother of suffragettes Emmeline Pankhurst and Mary Jane Clarke and she is credited with having an important forming influence on both her daughters’ political beliefs.

29 janv. 2023 · The Friends of Sophia Goulden, a charity dedicated to raising awareness about the Isle of Man-born suffragette, received a £4,000 grant from the Manx Lottery Trust. The group also plans to create a statue of Goulden and showcase a model of it at schools and community events.

Sophia Goulden retained close links with the Isle of Man, and had a home in Strathallan Crescent, Douglas, where she died in 1910. The blue plaque will be unveiled in her memory in a public ceremony on Friday, September 14, at 1pm, by Douglas Mayor Jon Joughin.
