Charles Thomas Close (July 5, 1940 – August 19, 2021) was an American painter, visual artist, and photographer who made massive-scale photorealist and abstract portraits of himself and others. Close also created photo portraits using a very large format camera.

Chuck Close was born on 5 July 1940 in Monroe, Washington, USA. He was a director and actor, known for Bob (1973), Six Degrees of Separation (1993) and Chuck Close (2007). He was married to Sienna Shields and Leslie Rose. He died on 19 August 2021 in Oceanside, New York, USA.
With editing completed by filmmaker Ken Kobland, Chuck Close lives the life and work of a man who has reinvented portraiture. Close photographs his subjects, blows up the image to gigantic proportions, divides it into a detailed grid and then uses a complex set of colors and patterning to reconstruct each face.
