I watched 'Saint Maud' earlier this year, and came away with the same sentiment. I am baffled by the amount of praise people give it. And I’m pleased to say that it did not disappoint. It’s a brutally honest film that explores the religious mind of a desperate traumatized and lonely person and the execution of it is excellent.
19 mai 2021 · Repulsion is the film that seemingly kicked off this subgenre of psychological horror through the eyes of a damaged woman. It's also the best in the genre. A recent favorite (besides Saint Maude and the Black pants Daughter) is the Eyes of My Mother. Both of these are in gorgeous black&white. 6.

And then she burned herself to a screaming, painful death. Truly worse and by far scarier than anything supernatural. Because it's real.
There’s a subtlety in the horror of Saint Maud — the horror of isolation, invasion, self-punishment and harm, paranoia, the supernatural, aging without dignity. This is dread horror, not fear horror. The scene with Maud's special self-punishment shoes is viscerally terrifying for me, at least.
