The film was a smash hit, and Sommers received two Saturn Awards nominations for Best Director and Best Writer in 2000 by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films. A successful sequel, The Mummy Returns, followed two years later, and he also co-wrote and produced 2002's The Scorpion King, a prequel/spin-off of The Mummy Returns.
Stephen Sommers, né le 20 mars 1962, est un réalisateur, producteur et scénariste américain, connu pour le film d'aventure La Momie (1999) et sa suite Le Retour de la momie (2001). Il a aussi réalisé le film d'action/horreur Van Helsing (2004) et G.I. Joe : Le Réveil du Cobra (2009).
