In 1969 the group recorded their first full album with Gamble and Huff, I Can't Stop Dancing, which reached number 28 on the R&B album chart. By that time another of Archie's brothers, Lee Bell (born January 14, 1946 in Houston), had replaced Butler and became the band's choreographer .
Throughout the '70s, Bell and the Drells combined their increasingly smooth and sophisticated sound with top-rate showmanship, amassing a total of 20 charting singles -- such as the additional Top Ten R&B hits "I Can't Stop Dancing," "There's Gonna Be a Showdown," and "Let's Groove" -- before their 1980 split.
