Galper left the Woods group in August 1990 to start touring and recording with his new trio with Steve Ellington on drums and Jeff Johnson on bass. From 1990 to 1999, his group was on the road six months a year. Galper is internationally known as an educator.

Recorded live at the Japanese Fujitsu-Concord Jazz Festival in 1987, this CD captures Woods and company in fine form. By 1987, the quintet (featuring Hal Galper on piano and Tom Harrell on trumpet) had been together for nearly five years and had gelled into a solid and comfortable bop band.
