The University of Oregon (UO, U of O or Oregon) is a public research university in Eugene, Oregon. Founded in 1876, the university also has two Portland locations, and manages a marine station, called the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology, in Charleston; and an observatory, called Pine Mountain Observatory, in Central Oregon.
82 percent of Oregon freshmen receive financial aid, and the UO confers $268 million annually in the form of grants, loans, work-study, and some scholarships. Beyond need-based aid, additional scholarships are open to incoming students and to those who are already attending the UO.
The University of Oregon is one of only two schools in the Pacific Northwest selected for membership in the prestigious Association of American Universities, a consortium of more than 70 leading public and private research institutions in the United States and Canada.
