The Chorister School, Durham and Durham School will merge from September 2021 to form one Foundation. The new Foundation will continue to support choristers for Durham Cathedral and offer enhanced academic, pastoral and co-curricular opportunities for all pupils.
Chorister School is a Church of England school with boarding and day options for pupils aged 3 to 11. It is linked to Durham School and offers a Christian framework, excellent facilities and a happy learning environment.

The school provided opportunity to boys from across the world to experience the rich world of music. The Boychoir toured across the contiguous United States, through Canada, as well as internationally, allowing students to gain diverse cultural perspective while performing at the professional level.
Choristers in Years 3-6 attend The Chorister School and those in Years 7-8 attend Durham School. The Chorister School is on the site of Durham Cathedral, set in the ‘back garden’ of the Cathedral, in The College or Cathedral close and Durham School is just on the other side of the river.
The Chorister School is a co-ed boarding school with a long history and a focus on Music and Maths. It prepares pupils for entry to a range of senior schools, including Harrow, Eton and King's Ely.
The Chorister School merged with nearby Durham School, closing 28 September 2021. Its creation dates back to 1416 as a school for the cathedral's choirboys. Whilst historically the school had fewer pupils, from 5 to 24, ages 8 to 20, expansion began in 1948 to reach the numbers of today.
