9 sept. 2000 · Elvera Sanchez Davis, also known as Baby Sanchez, was a dancer who performed in Harlem and Apollo chorus lines. She married Sammy Davis Sr., a fellow dancer, and had a son, Sammy Davis Jr., who became a tap-dance prodigy.
Elvera Sanchez was a chorus-line dancer at Apollo Theater for six years. She continued to dance until the 1940s. From 1989, until her death, she was an adviser to the New York Committee to Celebrate National Tap Dance Day.
Sammy Davis Jr. was born in 1925 to Elvera Sanchez, a dancer in a vaudeville troupe run by Will Mastin. He grew up on the road with his father and became a child star, but faced racism and bullying in the Army.
