Now they’ve snapped a couple of other prototypes and it appears the earlier model was a mule for the next-generation Panamera, which can apparently be seen in these pictures.

If it works well on the Panamera which is big and heavy, it will work wonders on future EV Porsche models that will weigh 1,900-2,000kg.
